Mangosteen Juice and Xanthones

Mangosteen Juice along with other vitamins and essential minerals, has become popular as a nutrition supplement. The Mangosteen fruit contains a natural chemical substance called Xanthones, and these have received high praise from many scientists and researchers.

Xanthones have been studied for their medicinal potential because they demonstrate a number of pharmaceutical properties. They are found in a select number of rain forest plants, and are in most abundance in the pericarp ( or rind ) of the mangosteen fruit. Two of the most beneficial xanthones found in the mangosteen are named Alpha Mangostin and Gamma Mangostin.

Professional journals such as Free Radical Research, The Journal of Enzyme Inhibition, The Environmental Health Prospectus, The Journal of Phyto Chemistry, The Journal of Natural Products, The European Journal of Pharmacology. , have reported that these xanthones have a remarkable effect on cardiovascular health, are naturally antibiotic, anti-viral and anti-inflammatrory.

Why are these Xanthones so important to us?

Xanthones are a class of antioxidants. An antioxidant is a molecule with extra electrons, which can be used to neutralise free radicals.

Free radicals are unstable atoms that raid the cells in our bodies, and cause irreparable damage in the process. A free radical expert, Dr Bruce Ames, estimates that the DNA in each one of the trillions of cells in your body receives 10,000 hits a day by free radicals.

Free radicals are in the air, and can be in the water we drink and the food we eat. They are in cigarette smoke, and other pollutants, and can even be created while preparing food. They are also produced by infection and inflammation in our bodies, and also by over exercise.

So, Antioxidants work on neutralising the free radicals, so they become stable. And, xanthones are a class of very potent antioxidants, and are found in the mangosteen.

So, you can see why mangosteen juice from the whole fruit mangosteen and it's pericarp, is so beneficial.
